favor boxes for kids

custom made favor boxesThanks to my good friend Sheelu and her beautiful daughter Misha, I got this opportunity to create these favor boxes for her birthday this march. I made a bunch of other decorations and banners too so read along. These also come in 4×4 and 5×5 and are made of card stock paper.

pretty banners for the pretty princess misha! she lives in a very pretty house so it looked great and complimented the gazillion pom poms her mom made for her yay!!!. made with card stock paper, ribbons, twine and did I mention that I crazy glued the back so it won’t move…it used to drive me crazy when that happened – the last thing you want to do when you are putting it up is line them up, make sure they are even etc.

decorative pom poms

decorative pom poms

I must admit that I am a bit in love with these pom poms. I made these for my friends daughters first year birthday. She asked me to make the pom poms as part of decoration so I added the ribbons incase she wanted to hang them and they sure add an elegant touch. The best part about these were that everyone actually thought they were flowers and the older girls at the party used them as party hats,  with so many boys in our house I don’t know why my mind din’t go there. I enjoy making them, they look so pretty almost anywhere. These were made from tissue paper and it was relatively easier to make than the ones I made from newspaper. contact me if you would like to buy these, they come in different sizes and colors and can be custom made for your next event.

newspaper pom poms

photo 3I made these pom poms for my friends 40th birthday. His love for the wall street journal inspired his wife to make a WSJ cake and needless to say I jumped on the idea. She had tons of newspaper and we used it to make pom poms, giant paper flowers, streamers etc. It was not the easiest thing cause newspaper, as supposed to tissue paper, has sharp edges so had to be careful but the outcome was fabulous. I used black silk ribbons to tie and suspended it from the vault and the lights from the backdrop set the mood perfectly.

I absolutely love these giant newspaper flowers and believe me when I say that these photographs don’t do justice to how gorgeous they really were. We placed them in bunches around the loft in “strategic” locations. It was subtle because of the material so I made them huge so they would stand out. This idea was inspired by my good friend and incredibly talented Brittany Watson and her giant paper flower wedding, which she made herself, check out her blog here. This is the most fun I have had with newspapers of late and we made a bunch of other decorations too, see my next post.

favors / christmas decorations

These are favors for my nephews who for the first time agreed to celebrate there birthday together.

It was at the ice rink in Virginia and they are 10 and 4 and most  of their friends are common between them like Peppa and George from Peppa pig. Since the age group varied from 1-10 they decided to get gift cards for everyone and being the creative aunt I stitched these skater bags as covers for the gift cards. It was very pretty and did I mention Yellow was one of there fav colors:). I made quite a few extra and used them as christmas decorations too.

halloween bags

Have you tried to get a halloween costume for your one year old that is a bit unique? Well good luck finding them unless you are willing to shell out tons of money for a costume they are going to wear for a couple of hours at best. I for one was tired of finding the same old costumes every year, they are really cute but you couldn’t wear one and be the only cute monkey or teddy bear out there. So I decided to stitch one my self. I found this DIY owl costume on a blog and added my own colors and changed it a bit but the obsession didn’t end there I took it a step further and stitched this halloween bag because my son was only a year old, he doesn’t know to carry any bag let alone ask for candy and fill it up. So I stitched this with the left over material with a long handle so he could wear it as a messenger bag and also added velcro at the opening to keep the candy from falling out now isn’t that thoughtful!

Pumpkins for halloween

IMG_3976When you have a young toddler at home full time you really have to get creative to manage time and have fun. I thought about getting a pumpkin and carve, paint etc for halloween but my baby was too small to understand any of it, so I thought instead I’ll just make some halloween decorations thats easy and different. All I had to get was some orange foam sheet, scissors and thread. Very simple and looked so gorgeous all over the house in different sizes. Hung it from the door knob too for trick o treaters.
